Stone & Wood is one of Australia's best-known independent breweries, and the plant on Kite Crescent in South Murwillumbah is where most of its beer is actually made. The brewery opened on this site in 2014 and is the production home of Pacific Ale and the rest of the core range. Stone & Wood bought the Kite Crescent site outright in 2023 after almost a decade there, and has announced a multi-million-dollar upgrade for the location.
This is a serious working facility rather than a cellar door. It runs on around 400 rooftop solar panels and recycles water through ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis. The brewery is not generally open for casual visits or walk-in tastings. The exception is the annual Murbah Open Day, when the site turns into an open-plan beer festival for one day. For tastings the rest of the year, Stone & Wood's visitor-facing brewery is at Byron Bay.
